MYKE is a natural plant growth enhancer consisting of living microscopic fungal organisms called mycorrhizae, which are fungi that colonize plant roots and form a mutually beneficial relationship. The plant provides sugars to the fungi through photosynthesis and the fungi enhance the vigor and health of the plant through:

  • Increasing the absorption of phosphorus and other nutrients
  • Reducing water needs
  • Accelerating root production & reducing transplant shock
  • Protecting against pathogens
  • Improving flowering & fruit production
  • Improving soil structure
  • Increasing plant growth

How and when should MYKE be applied for optimal results?

For optimal results, apply MYKE directly to the root system, or as close as possible to the roots. The best time to use the MYKE growth enhancers is at the time of seeding or planting.

How long does it take before the symbiotic relationship between mycorrhizae and a plant occurs?

The establishment of a symbiotic relationship varies depending on the type of plant, the size of the root system, how close to the roots the mycorrhizal fungi have been applied, temperature variations, etc.

The symbiosis generally begins a few days after contact between the mycorrhizal fungi and the plant’s root system has been established.

Aren’t mycorrhizae already present in soil? Why add it?

Soil disturbance by residential construction and intensive farming practices have considerably reduced the populations of naturally occurring mycorrhizal fungi in the soil. In most cases, their natural presence today isn’t enough to enhance plant growth.

Is MYKE harmful to animals? Can it be used for organic production?

MYKE is totally safe for plants and animals and is OMRI (Organic Materials Review Institute) listed for organic production. Even if ingested, MYKE will not harm animals in any way. It doesn’t contain any toxic substances.

Is MYKE harmful to animals? Can it be used for organic production?

Living growth enhancers are viable for up to two years, as long as they are stored away from the freezing cold and intense heat.

Are MYKE growth enhancers compatible with all plant species?

No, but extensive university research has proven that mycorrhizal fungi colonize 90% of all plant species. Only a few are not receptive, and those will not be negatively affected by mycorrhizae. Below is a list of the plant species that are not compatible with MYKE products:

  • Rhododendrons
  • Dianthus
  • Lupine
  • Sedum
  • Blueberries
  • Cruciferous Vegetable (Cabbage, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Brussel Sprouts, Turnips)

Are phosphorus fertilizers compatible with MYKE products?

Mycorrhizae increase phosphorus absorption by plants. Therefore, when using a soluble fertilizer (e.g.: 20-20-20) with a high phosphorus rate (more than 10 %), the quantity to apply is half the manufacturer’s recommended amount.
