Hydretain is a safe, easy-to-apply soil moisture retention product that works by an entirely different mechanism from earlier products. Hydretain has been used by golf courses and landscape & greenhouse professionals for years. It is now available to the homeowner as well. We believe it is the best drought-combating product on the market today and strongly recommend it for lawn use as well as container plantings. Completely safe. Kid & Pet Friendly.

How Hydretain Works

Hydretain adheres to the root hairs of plants and lawns, drawing moisture vapor from the soil. It then converts that moisture vapor into water droplets. This enables plants to take up more moisture and assists in the uptake of nutrients. It is definitively proven to reduce water use by 50%. This allows your lawn to remain green even in dry conditions and significantly reduces the water needs of hanging baskets & containers. A single application lasts three months.

How to Apply Hydretain

Previous soil moisture granules acted basically as tiny sponges that absorbed water and slowly released it to the surrounding soil. The unfortunate downside was that the gardener often ended up with a gooey mess if application directions weren’t followed to the absolute letter. Due to the mechanism by which Hydretain works the granules go on dry and, after being watered in, begin doing their work – cleanly and immediately. Granules can be broadcast on the lawn and planting beds or added to the container soil mix. Applying Hydretain when seeding a lawn can also considerably increase seed germination and plant establishment, even during drought conditions.

The liquid formulation is sold as a hose-end applicator, making it especially well suited for lawn use. Simply connect it to the end of your garden hose and apply with broad strokes to reduce watering by 50% for three months! One quart covers up to 5,000 square feet of lawn grass. For individual landscape plants or for containers mix the liquid at a rate of 2 ounces per gallon of water and drench the root zone.
